Why Book Awards mean More to Media

Goody Business Book Awards Award Winning Author

During a recent media interview with Goody Business Book Awards and Goody PR Founder Liz H. Kelly on the Get Out There and Get Known Podcast with Dr. Pam Perry, the host asked;

“What do you think is more important to a reporter when selecting experts to interview, an Award-Winning Author or a Bestselling Author?”

At first, Kelly paused to think about it. And then, she immediately agreed with Dr. Perry that an Award-Winning Author carries much more weight with the media because it’s actually harder to win a book award today versus becoming a bestseller on Amazon. With Amazon, you can easily set up a promotion and/or ask all your friends and fans to buy your book on the same day and become a Bestselling Author (we recommend this too).

As a Publicist and Award-Winning Author who primarily promotes authors and small businesses, Kelly explained that when the media is looking for experts to interview, the first thing they want to know is the guest’s credentials and backstory in a short bio. Her company is always looking for ways to amplify clients, which includes nominating authors for books awards.

With 46 million books now published on Amazon, one of the best ways to get a reporter’s attention is winning book awards.

What an “Award-Winning Author” title tells a TV producer, writer or radio host is that someone else read and vetted your book, and deemed it to be a winner! Reporters are always short on time. So if you can help them make a decision faster that you are the “perfect guest” with an award-winning book, your chances of getting selected will skyrocket.

By writing a solid bio and media pitch for clients, Kelly’s Goody PR agency has been fortunate to book thousands of interviews, including on the TODAY Show, CNN, PBS, BBC World News, ABC Radio, NPR, and in The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Publisher’s Weekly, and on hundreds of local tv and podcasts. Most reporters get flooded with daily pitches, so you want to find ways to stand out.

Along with getting more media interviews, being recognized with a book award can add great value to your marketing, publicity campaigns and sales.

To share the good news with the world, you can add the awards seal to your book cover, post it on your website, send out a press release announcement, add it to your book description on Amazon – and share it everywhere on your social media!

So if you are an author or a publicist, don’t even think twice about nominating books for an award! Many book awards are only announced once a year, and you need to read the fine print to see who is eligible to apply. And don’t miss the deadline!

The Goody Business Book Awards accepts any book published within the past 5 years, and the deadline to enter is September 30th.

Winners will be announced November 15th – just in time for your holiday promotions.
